The International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) is dedicated to reducing poverty and hunger through rice science; improving the health and welfare of rice farmers and consumers; and protecting the rice-growing environment for future generations. IRRI is an independent, nonprofit, research and educational institute, founded in 1960 by the Ford and Rockefeller foundations with support from the Philippine government. The institute, headquartered in Los Baños, Philippines, has offices in 17 rice-growing countries in Asia and Africa, and over 1,000 staff.
Working with in-country partners, IRRI develops advanced rice varieties that yield more grain and better withstand pests and disease as well as flooding, drought, and other harmful effects of climate change.
The incumbent will contribute to the implementation of research activities of the OneCGIAR Gender Equality (HER+) Initiative in India/ Asia. The first business cycle of HER+ extends from April 2022 to March 2025. The incumbent will support planning, implementation and reporting of activities of work package 2 in Asia, which focuses on socio-technical innovation bundling (STIBs) for women’s resilience and empowerment in the context of climate change. The research focuses on developing, testing and evaluating context-specific STIBs in selected learning labs; Designing and testing pathways and processes for enhanced uptake of STIBs by women and; developing a toolbox with guidance for designing, implementing and evaluating STIBs.
The incumbent will closely with the Senior scientist and work package team across Asia and Africa, supporting the design, implementation, monitoring and reporting of the Work Package in Asia
This position is based at Bhubaneswar, India and is only open for the permanent residents of India.
Masters or PhD in Rural Sociology, Gender Studies, Anthropology, Feminist Economics, Development Economics, Development Studies, Agricultural Economics, Institutional Economics, Geography or related field.
Masters Degree with 3-4 years of experience in Gender R4D in agriculture or food systems in Asia.
